Emmy-nominated actor and comedian Kevin James (“King of Queens” and “Kevin Can Wait”) chatted about starring in the new Angel Studios romantic comedy “Solo Mio.”

The synopsis is: Left heartbroken in Rome after a wedding disaster, a stranded groom Matt (Kevin James) finds his ruined honeymoon transformed by a determined local and a few meddling travelers—proving that sometimes heartbreak is only the beginning. As a result, Matt decides to go on his honeymoon solo.

“Solo Mio” was directed by Charles Kinnane and Daniel Kinnane from a screenplay co-penned by Kevin James, John Kinnane, and Patrick Kinnane.

This Kinnane Brothers film also stars Jonathan Roumie (“The Chosen”), Kim Coates (“Sons of Anarchy”) and Alyson Hannigan, among others.

Kevin James on making this movie

Kevin opened up about making this rom-com, which was filmed in Italy.

“This movie means the world to me,” he exclaimed. “It has the greatest cast and crew, and I am really happy with how it turned out.”

Kevin James on the development of the story

On the development of the story, Kevin said, “The story that we came up with and how it developed just kept growing.”

“I was so thankful because Italy was such an amazing character in the movie, so it was fun doing it with the whole crew there (who spoke Italian),” he noted.

“It was just fun! We had the obstacle of coming together and overcoming the language barrier, and that became a part of the movie,” he admitted.

Kevin James on whether this film redefined him about being alone and independent

When asked if this film redefined him about being alone and independent, Kevin responded, “That’s a really good point! There is confidence in being independent and being able to do that, but we are meant to be with people, and we are meant to be in a relationship or a friendship. We all need it!”

“It’s amazing how much relationship is a medicine for us… to be with others and to have other people,” he acknowledged.

“This is why this film is just as much a bromance as it is with these guys. They’ve helped my character out through some hard times, and it was really awesome, and they certainly helped,” he elaborated.

Lessons learned from the ‘Solo Mio’ screenplay

On the lessons learned from the “Solo Mio” screenplay, Kevin reflected, “It taught me that we are all vulnerable, and being alone really exposes you.”

“You want to find people, whether it’s friends, a girlfriend, or a wife, or whatever it is, and be with people and laugh with people, and that’s a comfort,” the Long Island native elaborated.

“Sometimes, there is a lack of that, and it turns into fear and anxiety, and all those things. So, you can see how it can go bad. Again, you will never know when you will find love,” he concluded.
