Kensington Tallman chatted about starring in the series “Home Sweet Rome!” and being a part of the digital age.

Tallman plays Lucy, one of the leads in Canada’s new Family Channel series.

How was your experience in “Home Sweet Rome!”?

Working on “Home Sweet Rome!” was such a dream come true. I got the opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful places on earth with the most incredible cast and crew. I got to film in some of the most iconic locations, like the Colosseum, The Spanish Steps, and so much more.

Everything about this experience was life-changing. I was in Europe for four months and had the best time. The people in Rome are so kind, and the whole energy of the city is so lively. (It really lives up to its name: ‘The Eternal City’).

Additionally, I am an Italian student, so I could speak Italian with the locals, which was so much fun. I also ate vegan gelato almost every single day, which was amazing. I feel so blessed to be a part of such a special show.

What did you like most about your character?

My character, Lucy, is so kind and such a great friend. She is silly and goofy, and she learns to always stay true to herself. One of my favorite things about Lucy is how optimistic she is. No matter how many times she falls, she always gets back up. She has so much heart and will always try to find the light in a dark situation.

What inspires you each day as an actress?

Something that inspires me each day as an actress is that I can reach people worldwide and tell stories. Storytelling is remarkable because you can help people cope with difficult emotions, take them out of their current situations, and make them laugh when they need it most. Every role or audition I get is another opportunity to do what I love and tell a story.

How does it feel to be an actress in the digital age? (Now, with streaming and technology being so prevalent?)

Being an actress in the digital age is very unique. It’s great because you can reach such a large audience on so many different platforms and have the opportunity to tell more stories. I am continually excited to see what new platforms arise or what new forms of storytelling are available.

As a viewer, I love having access to stream shows or movies whenever I want. What’s so cool is that you can create every day with all the different social media platforms too. It’s all very new to me, but I am really excited to learn and grow more.

What do your plans for the future include?

My plans for the future include continuing my work as an actress and storyteller. I am working on several animated projects and am about to film my first live-action feature film. I am also writing a show with my best friend, Samantha A. Smith, and I would love to produce our show in the near future.

I also would love to continue to strengthen my music skills. I have recently started songwriting which has been a great way to express myself.

Additionally, I want to be more active in mental health organizations and continue to advocate for animal rights and veganism. Finally, I would love to attend University to further develop my acting skills and continue my Italian studies.

I would love to be fluent by the time I graduate High School. I would love to start a Vegan clothing and makeup brand that is affordable to all.

After university, I would love to have a production company or be a showrunner (the person responsible for all creative aspects of the show) someday as well. I have been so fortunate to have worked with amazing showrunners (like Courtney Jane Walker and Matt Huether from “Home Sweet Rome!” and David A. Arnold from “That Girl Lay Lay”), and they have really inspired me.

What does the word success mean to you? (My favorite question)

To me, success means knowing that you did your best and that you are proud of yourself no matter what. It’s not about perfection. In fact, the more mistakes you make, the more you will grow. So knowing that I am enough, even if I wasn’t perfect, is a success.

What would you like to tell our readers about “Home Sweet Rome!”?

“Home Sweet Rome” is a show about self-discovery. You will see my character Lucy embarking on her new life abroad and trying to figure out who she is as a person.

Our show features complex and relatable topics such as loss, new family members, making new friends, being neurodivergent, having anxiety, staying true to yourself, and so much more.

The show will make you laugh and cry in one episode. It also features amazing original music that you will want to sing along with. It’s a show that the whole family can watch together.
