Artist Kendra Erika chatted about her single “Have My Way With You.”
On the song “Have My Way With You,” she remarked, “Grammy nominated producer and composer Luigi Lugo Gonzalez, brought Alih Jey in as the third songwriter, and we hit it off instantly.”
“We both discussed our romantic situations and from there we bubbled up some cool concepts lyrically, about regaining our power. From there we added a very playful and sexy vibe about having your way with someone spontaneously,” she said.
Music and songwriting inspirations
On her music and songwriting inspirations, she said, “The experiences I’ve gone and go through. I always like having double entendres when I write so people can take it and evoke their own listening experience.”
“I make a conscious effort to always start off each of my studio sessions with philosophical conversations, so barriers and the four walls can come down and really open ourselves up,” she said.
The digital age
On being an artist in the digital age, now with streaming, technology and social media being so prevalent, she said, “It’s definitely a more DIY process, but digital and socials allow for more of a creative lifestyle.”
“Frankly, it’s made the artist development side of labels a bit lazier in that respect, since they want you to have the numbers and likes before they sign you. Nevertheless, that’s what has created a pathway for independent artists to take the spotlight because like I said, when you do it yourself, you have more self control,” she elaborated.
Future plans
On her future plans, she said, “There is more music coming out. The rest of this year is booked up with releases in the months to come, including a song I wrote and recorded with Dave Aude, DYSON, and Chloe Lattanzi, who is the daughter of late and treasured Olivia Newton-John.”
“I also have a couple independent film projects I’m acting in in the very near future. And, more live shows to be announced,” she foreshadowed.
Dream duet choice in music
She listed Michael Bublé, Andrea Bocelli, Kylie Minogue, and Frank Ocean, as her dream collaboration choice in music.
“Michael Bublé is the closest thing to Frank Sinatra. Also, Andrea Bocelli because he’s a worldly ambassador. Kylie Minogue… because we share a very similar tone and approach to upbeat music. And, Frank Ocean because it would be very smooth,” she said.
Success
On her definition of the word success, she shared, “When health, spirituality, enjoyment of what you do, family, quality friends and peers, and wealth collide.”
“I hope listeners find their sense of playfulness again, and to let it spice their day up, and put them in a good mood,” she concluded about the song.
