Kate Winslet wins ‘Best Supporting Actress’ Golden Globe award

Winslet’s win was for her portrayal of Joanna Hoffman, a trusted marketing executive of Steve Jobs, in the motion picture Steve Jobs. She bested her fellow nominees Jane Fonda for Youth, Jennifer Jason Leigh for The Hateful Eight, Dame Helen Mirren for Trumbo and Alicia Vikander for Ex Machina.

In her acceptance speech, the actress, who was in absolute shock, remarked, “I really am actually extremely surprised and overwhelmed. Thank you so much to the Hollywood Foreign Press. Is this really happening? I just want to start by saying ‘what an incredible year for women in film.’ These categories are so crowded and crammed with incredible skill and integrity, and I feel prouder than ever this year to be included. I really truly do.”

This marks Winslet’s fourth career Golden Globe award. In the past, she took home Golden Globes for her film roles in The Reader and Revolutionary Road, as well as in the television mini-series Mildred Pierce, where she starred in the leading role of Mildred Pierce.

Most recently, the English actress celebrated her 40th birthday with an appearance on the Ellen show.
