Kane Brown talks music, gold record for ‘Used To Love You Sober’ (Includes interview)

Most recently, Brown was surprised with a gold plaque at the Gramercy Theatre in New York for his hit single, “Used to Love You Sober,” for sales in excess of 500,000 units. “That was awesome. It was a different crowd being in New York. There were more guys than usual, but it was fun since they were all jamming up,” he said. “That felt amazing, I wasn’t even expecting to get that on stage. It was a great achievement, and a dream come true. I never thought I would ever have a gold single.”

Speaking of “Used to Love You Sober,” he listed it as his personal favorite song. “I have a lot of songs on the album that are growing on me, but ‘Used to Love You Sober’ was my first gold single,” he said.

On July 17, he played the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, where he opened for The Cadillac Three, Cole Swindell and headliners Florida Georgia Line. “That was a nice venue, and it was huge. It reminded me of a Roman theater for some reason. It was awesome, especially since it was right by the ocean,” he said.

His new radio single, “Thunder in the Rain” is a relationship song about two unstoppable forces, where he compares two people in a relationship, and nothing can break them apart. “It’s a fast-paced, roll your windows down song that you can jam to,” he said. “I love the stories in country music and the connection with the fans. I feel that country music has the most loyal fan-base, where everyone is a huge family.”

For aspiring songwriters and country singers, he said, “Never give up, and keep writing music and keep working hard. Try to make the Internet your force.”

He listed Shania Twain and Ariana Grande as his dream female collaboration partners.

A Georgia native, Brown wants to be a role model for kids. “I’m just trying to be farther than I was yesterday, and I will keep moving forward and staying positive. I want to be a motivator to kids, and to people that are down on themselves, and hopefully, I can bring them up,” he said.
