Episode seven of KanColle, titled “I Hate Carrier Group One!,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll for paid members. Free subscribers can watch the same episode six days from now on February 25th.
Fubuki has her hands full in getting the Fifth Mobile Fleet to work together.
Her ultimate challenge is getting Kaga and Zuikaku to work together since they came from rival mobile fleets. It is apparent that the two of them greatly dislike each other because they are from those two groups.
Zuikaku’s arrogance and prejudice towards the First Carrier Division causes her to be blindsided by a torpedo, which Kaga gets hit with in order to protect her. This scene teaches a valuable lesson that prejudice and intolerance cause a lot of harm in the long run.
It is obvious that Zuikaku feels insulted and that her honor has been tarnished.
I feel really bad for Fubuki, who has to put up with the selfish behavior of the other members. She is an example that being a leader is full of headaches. This is why many capable leaders choose not to be and would rather work behind the scenes because leading is stressful.
Fubuki is learning a hard lesson in stress management.
This overall became an interesting episode for many reasons.
The first reason is that Fubuki used crucial information to her advantage. If the enemy knows your strategy and tactics, then you need to be smarter. This has proven true when Fubuki came to the realization that the targets were Zuikaku and Shokaku, who were to carry out the main objective.
The second reason is that Zuikaku learns that one should take risks if one has nothing left to lose, which proved to be correct given her situation. It seems that Zuikaku has warmed up to Kaga by putting her “gambling” philosophy to good use.
This episode was straightforward and got to the point of effective teamwork. Fubuki shows that the leader does not have to be the strongest or the smartest.
