“I’m preparing for the release of my first EP on November 10,” she said. “I’ve been working tirelessly the past year on it and I cant wait for everyone to be able to hear it. A music video will hopefully be out soon after my release.”
Her EP release show is on November 11 at Revolution in Amityville, New York. “My hope is that these songs help my career take off. The possibility of me attending a music school after high school is an option, however, I truly want to see myself in the future selling out venues, playing alongside crazy talented musicians, and having the time of my life,” she said.
She listed Jeff Buckley as her greatest musical influence. “I remember listening to his rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ and being absolutely blown away. I started to listen and begin to sing more songs off of his album Grace. His range, tone, and beautiful vibrato were all things I looked up to and worked hard to obtain myself. Another one of my biggest influences is Brendon Urie from Panic! at the Disco. The power of his voice is unbelievable. So, I started covering Panic songs and my own voice got stronger and stronger. If I never listened to these two great artists, my voice wouldn’t be what it is today. They unknowingly pushed me to try harder.”
Lambert noted that her music represents her life and experiences. “I want my music to be honest and real, not just empty words with a chord progression underneath. I’m never going to write a song that’s not personal to me. If someone listens to my music, I want them to be able to relate to it. Take heartbreak, my heartbreak and someone else’s could be two entirely different scenarios, however, it’s still heartbreak,” she said.
Digital transformation of music
On the digital transformation of music, Lambert said, “We all know technology has made our live much easier; however, the music industry has been changed forever by it. You’re first judged on how many followers you have on Instagram, before listening to you sing. It’s almost a screening process to see if you’re worth listening to. So, if you don’t have as many followers as the next person you’re basically being skipped over. That’s hard for me to get used to. I’m growing up in this digital age and working hard to create a name for myself through social media, yet because I’m not a queen of Instagram or Twitter, I’m viewed as not being talented when they’ve never even heard me. Social media has its ups for an aspiring artist as well. A friend of mine told me recently that her friend from the Carolinas is stoked about the release of my music. I’ve never met this girl and she’s never seen me live, yet she’s a fan who is excited about my music. That reassures me that I’m doing what I should be doing with my life.”
On her daily use of technology, Lambert said, “Everyday and everywhere I go I always have my phone in my hand. Whether I’m writing down lyrics to a new song, learning a new guitar part, or coordinating rehearsals, I do it all with my smartphone. I have the ability to share my shows and videos on social media with the click of a finger. I have a promotional device in my hands, a luxury an artist from years past didn’t have.”
Lambert listed Harry Styles and Brendon Urie as her dream male duet choices. “His debut solo album blew me away and his voice is so unique. His songs are an ode to classic rock bands and artists such as The Beatles and David Bowie, whose music I love. Brendon Urie would also be an extremely fun collaboration. It would be a very powerful thing having our voices together. Singing with either of these guys would definitely be a bucket-list moment,” she said.
