Judah and the Lion is made up of front-man Judah Akers on guitar and lead vocal, Brian Macdonald on Mandolin and vocals, Nate Zuercher on banjo and vocals, as well as Spencer Cross on drums.
On performing at Gramercy Theatre in New York, Judah said, “It feels awesome. It’s a beautiful place. We are ready to rock out tonight.”
Regarding the origin of their album’s name, Brian said, “We always dispute who said what first. It was either Judah or Spencer that said ‘Stop, Drop N’ Roll.’ We kind of spun. That was just a name that came up and it transformed into Folk Hop N’ Roll.”
The band noted that they were going for a theme for their new album. “I think we were trying to hit a little of the three genres that we all love: the folk genre, the hip hop and the rock and roll genre. Lyrically, it is lighthearted and it fits the culture of the band,” Judah said.
Spencer listed “Uh-Huh, Yeah!” as his favorite track on the CD, Brian selected “Insane,” while Judah and Nate both picked “Take It All Back” as their personal favorite songs.
Their plans for 2016 are to continue having fun. “Finishing up this tour and we have a lot of festivals this summer. Will see what the fall holds,” Judah said.
The band members listed Taylor Swift, Colbie Caillat, new artist Rylo, as well as Reba McEntire as their dream female duet choices.
For their fans, they concluded, “We love you. Keep spreading the word and keep rocking out at shows. Thank you for everything.”
