Actor Josh Gilmer chatted about starring in the new thriller “Golden,” as well as working with co-star Brian Austin Green.
The film was written, produced, and directed by Nick Leisure.
The synopsis is: In a high-stakes world of deception and desire, master counterfeiter Frank Swain is drawn into a dangerous web of crime when the wrong people learn about his forging skills.
Pursued by ruthless criminals and a relentless detective alike, he must navigate greed, seduction, and shifting loyalties to pull off one last golden heist.
Filming experience
On his experience starring in “Golden,” Gilmer said, “It was wild in the best way! I think the producer Justin Nesbit reached out to me on a Saturday, checking my availability and then, I was on a train to Mexico the following Tuesday, to start filming on Wednesday.”
“It was crazy, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I think the lack of prep forced me to focus and just let ‘er rip. It was a blast,” he exclaimed.

Playing Axel in ‘Golden’
On playing Axel in the movie, he remarked, “Axel doesn’t give a damn about anybody or anything other than himself. That’s really liberating as an actor and a lot of fun to play!”
Working with Brian Austin Green
On working with Brian Austin Green, Gilmer said, “Brian was great! He was exactly what you’d want him to be as a No. 1 on the call sheet, and just somebody with his stature.”
“Brian was always extremely prepared and his positive energy and attitude on set really set the tone for the rest of the cast and crew. Brian was such a good guy, and I hope I have the opportunity to work with him again,” he elaborated.

Lessons learned from the ‘Golden’ screenplay
On the lessons learned from the “Golden” screenplay, Gilmer reflected, “It taught me to not be selfish, as well as to put others first.”
Future plans
Regarding his future plans, he shared, “I’m an actor and producer on a feature film we just wrapped called ‘Solutions’ that was written and directed by creative genius Dan Aid.”
“It’s a dark comedy that came from his love of the Coen Brothers, Martin McDonagh, and Quentin Tarantino. We shot it throughout Central Illinois including my hometown of Bartonville,” he elaborated.
“I really hope to continue to produce films that we can shoot there, as it has so much character and I would love to be able to pump some money back into the community,” he added.
The digital age
On being a part of the digital age, Gilmer said, “I really only know the digital age as an actor, but I definitely miss the old days of film.”
“The grain of the film, practical effects, and the lack of AI…I hope the things I work on moving forward lean more towards practical and less towards AI,” he added.
Advice for young and aspiring actors
For young and emerging actors, he said, “Don’t be an asshole and don’t quit, and you might have a chance at success.”
Career-defining moments
When asked about his career-defining moments, Gilmer responded, “I don’t know if I’ve had any ‘defining moments’ just yet, but I look forward to them, and seeing where they take me.”
