He’s the shy face of Craigslist, the world’s best-known online classified site, and The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart got some face time with Craig Newmark to talk about the site’s beginning, the Casual Encounters section and Osama Bin Laden.
What makes this interview intriguing is not only the flashes of comedy from Stewart, but also Newmark’s bluntness. You can tell he doesn’t care about monetizing Craigslist, since he works full-time as a customer service rep.
I only wish Stewart would’ve probed further into how the site makes money to maintain costs. Craigslist is completely devoid of advertising, despite pulling in five billion page views per month.
That’s not a typo. Five billion!
