Johnny Huynh chatted about his new single “SAVIOR,” his music and songwriting inspirations, and being a part of the digital age.
He is a Seattle-born, Vietnamese-American vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, recording artist and producer.
How did ‘SAVIOR’ come about?
“SAVIOR” was born from one of the most difficult realizations I’ve ever had—that no
matter how much you love someone, you can’t fix them.
My last relationship was filled with moments where I tried to be the answer to someone else’s pain, only to realize that healing is something only they can do for themselves.
Writing this song was both heartbreaking and freeing because it forced me to accept that some people don’t want to be saved.
I poured every ounce of that feeling into “SAVIOR,” hoping it resonates with anyone who has ever felt the same.
What inspires your music and songwriting?
My music is inspired by the raw, unfiltered emotions I’ve experienced in love and
heartbreak.
Every song I write comes from a real place—whether it’s the rush of passion,
the sting of betrayal, or the weight of longing.
I think the most powerful songs are the ones that feel like a confession, where you say the things you were too afraid to say out loud.
Music is my way of processing those emotions, and I hope that by sharing them, others feel seen in their own stories.
How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age?
It’s both a blessing and a challenge to be an artist in a time where everything moves so fast. The reach and independence are incredible—you can create something in your bedroom and have it touch people all over the world.
At the same time, it’s easy to feel like you’re shouting into the void, hoping someone hears you.
The key is believing so deeply in your art that no amount of noise or competition can shake your confidence in what you’re creating.
What do your plans for the future include?
Moving to LA in July feels like the start of a whole new chapter in my life. I want to pour everything I have into creating my debut album—something that feels timeless and deeply personal.
Touring is also a huge goal for me because there’s nothing more powerful than connecting with people through live music.
More than anything, I just want to keep growing as an artist, pushing myself creatively, and telling stories that matter.
Were there any moments in your life or career that have helped define you?
The moment that changed everything for me was my first heartbreak—it shattered me, but it also showed me who I was.
That pain became the foundation of my first EP, “SAVIOR,” where I told the full story of my first love from beginning to end. It was terrifying to put something so personal out into the world, but it also showed me the power of vulnerability.
That experience made me realize that music is more than just songs—it’s a
way to connect, to heal, and to remind people they’re not alone.
What is your advice for young and emerging artists?
Believe in your music even when no one else does yet. The digital age can make you
feel like you’re constantly chasing trends, but the real key to success is staying authentic and consistent.
People can tell when something is real, and if you believe in your art with
everything you have, others will start to believe too.
Keep creating, keep putting yourself out there, and never let doubt stop you from chasing what you love.
Which artists would you like to someday do a dream duet with and why?
I would love to collaborate with Dominic Fike, Isabel LaRosa, and ZAYN because they
all bring something so raw and unique to their music.
Dominic’s storytelling and effortless style inspire me, Isabel’s haunting melodies and dark soundscapes resonate deeply with me, and ZAYN’s voice carries so much emotion.
Each of them creates music that feels personal, cinematic, and immersive—exactly what I strive for in my own work.
A collaboration with any of them would be a dream because I know we’d create something unforgettable.
What does the word success mean to you?
Success, to me, isn’t about numbers or charts—it’s about creating something that
moves people. If just one person listens to my music and feels understood, then I’ve
done my job.
Of course, I want to tour, to build a lasting career, and to be able to make music for a living.
At the heart of it all, success is about connection—it’s about making something real that leaves an impact long after the song ends.
What would you like to say to your fans about ‘SAVIOR’?
“SAVIOR” is a lesson in love, in heartbreak, and in learning to let go. Sometimes, no
matter how much you want to help someone, they have to find their own way—and that’s one of the hardest truths to accept.
This song is for anyone who has ever tried to be there for someone, only to realize that some battles can’t be fought for them. I hope when you listen, it brings you clarity, comfort, and maybe even closure.
