John Dahlbäck talks ‘Raven’ and future plans in electronic music (Includes interview)

“It feels great to be in New York,” he said. “The weather is good. I landed an hour ago.”

Tonight, Dahlbäck will be performing at Space Ibiza in New York, which marks his third time playing at the venue. “It is a bit unusual, because I play longer sets here, and I can just play what I want, so it is going to be good,” he said. “I am going to try and play a bunch of stuff from the new album, so I am just trying to work that out. I will play five or six new tracks.”

On his new single “Raven,” the Swedish electronic music sensation said, “‘Raven’ is like a mix between old-school 90s, with the piano and drums, but the drop is very modern, like it sounds now. To be honest, I thought it was just an okay track, and then I played it out and it sounded huge. It is a fun track.”

Each day, Dahlbäck is motivated by the fact that he gets to do his hobby for a living. “It is amazing to earn a living from your hobby. I don’t have to be the biggest DJ in the world. I don’t care about that. I just want to make a living out of what I am doing,” he said.

When it comes to his favorite cities to perform, two in particular that stand out to him as his favorites, include New York City and his native Stockholm, Sweden. “I like this city a lot, and I love Sweden and Stockholm, where I am from. It is just a nice city,” he said.

In his spare time, he noted that he enjoys playing video games. “I hang out with my friends and family, who are upset, because I don’t hang out as much as they want to,” he said.

“Thank you for the support,” he said to his loyal fans. He defined the word success as “Taking control of your own day, and doing whatever you want to do.”
