Actor John Brotherton (“Fuller House”) chatted about his new original holiday film “Lights, Camera, Christmas!” on the Hallmark Channel, which premieres on November 5.

This movie is a part of the network’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” programming event, and Brotherton stars opposite Kimberley Sustad. “It was great,” he said.

“Honestly, it was one of the most fun experiences I have ever had. Any time I get to work, it’s magic, no matter the project but there is something really special about this one. I got to play an actor making a Christmas movie and that was so much fun. Also, it’s a good ole fashioned rom-com. You are going to laugh and you are going to cry. We had an absolute hoot,” he elaborated.

“I am loving my time on Hallmark now, I loved everything I have done with them and for them, the people are great,” he said.

The synopsis is as follows: When a movie shoot descends on a small town to film a Christmas movie, local boutique owner Kerry (Kimberley Sustad) gets hired at the last minute to replace the film’s costume designer.

As if this unexpected turn of events isn’t major enough, Kerry also finds herself falling for Brad Barton (John Brotherton) the movie’s famous and charismatic leading man who is starting to pursue more challenging acting roles.

Meanwhile, everyone in the town is excited about the movie shoot including Kerry’s mom (Laura Soltis”) who is Brad’s biggest fan. Kerry begins to reconnect with her lost love of the holidays while discovering a renewed passion for clothing design.

As her relationship with Brad deepens, they will need to decide if their career ambitions and romance can coexist. “The big city movie star is grounded by the small-town girl,” he said.

Brotherton was drawn to playing his character, Brad Barton, for several reasons. “It’s really this triangle that Brad has to balance between the person that he really is, the person that he wants to world to believe he is, and the person he is on screen and that’s where Kimberley’s character comes in and she makes him real. She makes him put his persona aside and dig into who he really is as a human being,” he explained.

“Working with Kimberley Sustad was amazing, she blew me away,” he exclaimed. “Kimberley is so incredibly talented. Her toolbox as an actor is so deep. She is so naturally honest and vulnerable on camera. I’ve never had an actor naturally bring tears to my eyes as she did when we worked together. She was my motivation and she was fantastic.”

“Lights, Camera, Christmas” is from Lighthouse Pictures Inc. David Weaver directed the movie from a script by Gary Goldstein. “I hope this film makes the fans laugh and I hope that it makes them cry. It will provide a certain amount of joy and love. There is nothing like laughing and having tender moments with your family. I look forward to putting smiles on people’s faces,” he said.

‘Fuller House’

Brotherton recalled his time on “Fuller House.” “That was a dream job, that was a pinch-me moment in life for sure,” he admitted. “I worked with the most amazing people from the cast, creator, to the crew. Going to work was like puppy dogs and rainbows. We are still a family to this day and we all support each other.”

“Also, I was on that show when my younger daughters were growing up, so it was the perfect time for them to experience the magic and get to hang out on set, and that was cool, especially since this show was a part of their childhood as well,” he said.

Brotherton had great words about working with actors Michael Campion and Juan Pablo Di Pace. “They are both great men,” he said. “JP and I clicked right away since we were the two new adults. JP is so talented, he can do it all: sing, dance, drama, and comedy. Michael is incredible too, he has a huge heart, and he is a good magician.”

For young and aspiring actors, he said, “You need to love it, you can’t chase celebrity, that will never get you anywhere. Chase with the craft and be in love with it. You need to commit to it like it’s a full-time career.”

Brotherton defined the word success as follows: “being able to take care of my kids through my art, doing what I love.”
