On his new single “Love Me Back,” he said, “I played Russian roulette with beats online, and I couldn’t stop dancing to it. I started writing to it, and it was supposed to be a joke to myself, and it started from there. I went from ‘text me back’ to ‘love me back.’ It’s about someone’s insecurity of being a profile online without the physical aspects that contribute to a relationship. That was the whole purpose of the song.”
Regarding the digital transformation of the music scene, he said, “My business partners had a meeting about the transition from physical merchandising (CDs and albums) to digital streaming. It’s a complete white and black world. I’m a social media-based entertainer. The Internet has leveled the playing field for people who don’t have access to Hollywood. Somebody like me, from Texas, I got noticed because of a couple of pictures I posted on Instagram. Some people rise to fame and are ready for it, and some people are never ready for it. They were never prepared in their lives for something like Hollywood. The digital era has completely changed the game. I’ll thank Spotify specifically for changing my life. It gave me that opportunity to get plays. As streaming becomes the norm, you have to work with it and adapt to it.”
Suarez listed as Kesha his dream collaboration choice. “To me, Kesha, musically represents what I want to represent as a gay male artist, but I love her whole persona,” he said. “I love her free spirit.”
