Joey Feek from the country duo Joey + Rory passes away at 40

Joey was 40 years old and had battled cervical cancer since 2014. Her husband, veteran country singer-songwriter Rory, revealed the sad news on his blog. “My wife’s greatest dream came true today,” Rory posted. “She is in heaven.”

She is surrounded by her loving family in their home in Indiana. Their daughter, Indiana, who just turned two years old, has Down’s Syndrome. Country queen Dolly Parton was one of Joey’s biggest musical influences.

They were discovered in 2008 thanks to their participation on the music competition show “Can You Duet” on Country Music Television (CMT). A year later, they were crowned “Top New Vocal Duo of the Year” at the Academy of Country Music (ACM) awards.

In 2016, they were up for a Grammy award for “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” for their version of “If I Needed You.”

Many of country music’s top artists have expressed their condolences on the loss of Joey Martin Feek.

Their newest album Hymns topped the Billboard Top Country Albums charts.
