Joan Jett: A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer turns 60

She was always one to never “give a damn” about her reputation to quote her lyrics from “Bad Reputation,” and she sure loves “rock and roll.”

In her earlier days, Jett was one of the founding members of the all-female rock group, The Runaways, at 15 years old, and she went on to front The Blackhearts in 1979, at the age of 21, and she had her own solo career.

Jett released her albums and singles under her own record label, Blackheart Records, and in 2015, Jett was inducted into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with her former band members of The Blackhearts (Ricky Byrd, the late Lee Crystal, and Gary Ryan).

Miley Cyrus inducted them into the hallowed Rock Hall, and Dave Grohl joined them on stage to sing “Cherry Bomb,” and Cyrus sang the piercing background vocals in “Crimson and Clover” at the induction ceremony with Grohl and the song’s original songwriter Tommy James.

Her other signature songs include “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” her multi-week No. 1 single “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” and her rocking version of the Mary Tyler Moore theme song “Love Is All Around.”

The new documentary, Bad Reputation, comes out on September 28, which honors her musical legacy.
