Joan Baez to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Baez will be joined by such artists as Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Nile Rodgers, Pearl Jam, the late Tupac Shakur and Yes. She is the sole female artist that will be inducted in next year’s ceremony. The 32nd annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on April 7, 2017 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Baez noted in a press release that she never considered myself to be a rock and roll artist, however, as part of the folk music boom, which contributed to and influenced the rock revolution of the ‘60s, she was proud that some of her songs made their way into the rock lexicon. “I very much appreciate this honor and acknowledgement by the Hall of Fame,” she said in the press statement.

Her career in the music industry has spanned well over five decades, where she unselfconsciously introduced Bob Dylan to the world in 1963, marched with Martin Luther King during the Civil Rights Movement, and she continues to stand and support the different causes that she embraces.

Earlier this year, Baez celebrated her 75th birthday at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, where she was honored by such fellow artists and friends as Jackson Browne, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Judy Collins, David Crosby, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Paul Simon, Mavis Staples, and Richard Thompson, among others.
