Jewel to release new studio album ‘Picking Up The Pieces’

It features 14 new tracks and it will contain elements of folk music. Jewel produced this collection by herself, with her first producer, the late Ben Keith, in mind. The Alaskan-born songstress hired a band that consisted mostly of Neil Young collaborators.

She noted in a press statement, that her forthcoming album is comprised of her thoughts, feelings and her poetry. She added that her intention was to make an album, where she did not feel “diluted.” “I was trying to keep my mind quiet and honestly get back to something I feel like I’d lost touch with in my life,” she said in a press release. “It was really an exercise in shutting out fear. I was giving myself permission to be exactly who and what I was,” she added.

For Jewel, the past five years involved a great deal of change, in both her personal and creative life. Her son, Kase, was born, however, her marriage fell apart. She had written her memoir, Never Broken, and recorded several children’s albums.

Her forthcoming CD, Picking Up the Pieces, captures some of these moments on such songs as “Love Used to Be” and “Mercy,” and it includes such live favorites as “Carnivore” and “Boy Needs a Bike”; moreover, it features “My Father’s Daughter,” a collaboration with country queen Dolly Parton.
