Her memoir, It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War, is close to being bought by Warner Bros with none other than Steven Spielberg set to direct, according to Deadline. The memoir has been a very popular item for filmmakers every since the New York Times published an excerpt of it last month.
The memoir covers Addario’s time in the most war-torn parts of the world over the last 15 years, reports CBS News. During time in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Darfur, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, she focused on the victims war, especially the women.
She hasn’t completely escaped danger, though. In 2011, she was among four New York Times journalists who were captured by forces loyal to Libya, and subjected to physical abuse over six days during the civil war, according to BBC News.
Warner Bros wasn’t the only company bidding for the filming rights, according to Deadline. Working Title Films was trying to get it for Reese Witherspoon, Darren Aronofsky wanted to make it with Natalie Portman in the main role, Focus’ Margot Robbie wanted it as well, and The Weinstein Company wanted it for George Clooney and Grant Heslov, Clooney’s producing partner.
As the deal closes and the development process begins, both Lawrence and Spielberg will be plenty busy with other work. BBC News reports that Lawrence, 24, is filming Joy with David O. Russell, Spielberg is filming the Cold War drama St. James Place with Tom Hanks, and will also be bringing Roald Dahl’s beloved novel, BFG, to the big screen in 2016.
