Actress and singer Jenna Davis chatted about voicing M3GAN in the sequel “M3GAN 2.0,” and she opened up about her new music and being a part of the digital age.

Her upcoming debut album, Where Did That Girl Go?, will be released on June 27th.

How did it feel to voice M3GAN?

Voicing M3GAN is so much fun! It is so surreal to me that a voice I came up with in my bedroom closet is adored by so many.

M3GAN has a line in the first film that states, “It’s insane, right?” and my whole experience with the film and the character has felt truly surreal and insane!

Are you excited about the sequel ‘M3GAN 2.0? What can we expect? (I loved the first one!)

Thank you! I am really stoked for the sequel. Of course, it is nerve wracking to continue a story that people loved so much however, I think audiences are in for a real treat.

The sequel definitely introduces more action than the original, audiences will also get to see a new side of M3GAN that I had a lot of fun with, and a new villain is being introduced. I am biased though, M3GAN still remains queen bee.

What inspires your music and songwriting?

My music & songwriting stem from my life or sometimes even my friend’s lives. It is very important to me that each of my songs tell a story from start to finish. Whether the audience has to question the meaning or not.

I appreciate that mystery and beauty of storytelling. Maybe that’s the actress within me.

How did you approach the song selection process of your debut album?

I won’t deny it was quite a process. I wanted to make sure that the whole album wasn’t just sad, or happy, or one specific emotion.

As an actress, I appreciate playing with my emotions and I wanted each song to depict a different emotion, story, and meaning so there wouldn’t be any skips.

I hope that I achieved that, but I guess listeners will have to let me know!

What is your personal favorite song on there?

“Actor” is probably my favorite however, it changes every day.

The song itself is about how I was going through a breakup during the biggest press week of my life (M3GAN) and how through all the interviews I had to pretend that I was happy when I was really heartbroken; but in the end he made me a better actor. p.s. I also love the redemption chorus at the end.

How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age?

I think there are pros and cons. We have the ability to promote our music and market it ourselves however, it can be frustrating and defeating at the same time if you work hard on a video and it is not being shown.

What is your advice for young and aspiring artists?

Have fun. Don’t take anything personally or too seriously. Surround yourself with the best people and create with your favorite people.

Which artists would you like to do a dream collab with someday?

I have always looked up to Miley Cyrus and Carrie Underwood, so perhaps one of them. However, I would love to explore a duet with a male artist, too. I think male and female duets are so powerful.

What does the word success mean to you? (My favorite question)

I think success can be a lot of things. Sure, crossing things off your bucket list is always exciting and rewarding however, I think success is celebrating every little win and finding contentment and stability with who you surround yourself with, your career, family, job, health, and faith.

Success is pure joy, enjoying life, loving people well, and enjoying who and what you devote your time to.
