Jared Scott talks ‘Turnt’ on Facebook Watch, ‘The Wrong Friend’ (Includes interview)

In the topical series Turnt, Scott plays Forrest, which deals with teenage social circles and how they are blurred after a scandalous hookup, leading to bad trips, budding romance, and secret sex. “It was a crazy experience,” he admitted. “This role was booked fast. I self-taped my audition, and I sent it in. I did the callback the next day, and within a few days, we were shooting. It was a lot of fun.”

Turnt is one of the very first shows to premiere on Facebook Watch, which is Facebook’s video platform, that launched in late August.

In addition to Turnt, Scott stars in the new thriller The Wrong Friend, which recently premiered on Lifetime. He plays the male protagonist, a psychopath who sets his sights on a young woman. “That was an interesting experience for me. This character is such a dark, manipulative and malevolent guy,” he said. “That was a fun acting challenge for me, and I had fun filming that too.”

He also played in Before the Dawn as a student who falls for his teacher. “That was my first feature film, which I starred in,” he said. “The movie doesn’t glamorize or condone this relationship, but it explores the why and the how. It ended up being a topical thing with #MeToo. It’s a cool, unbiased look at why this would happen and all the complications that come with it. I play this Romeo, lovesick puppy.”

Scott listed Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, and Ryan Gosling as his dream collaboration partners in the entertainment.

Digital transformation of entertainment industry

On the impact of technology on the entertainment world, Scott said, “I love it. For me, with acting, it has given me so many opportunities and jobs. The amount of amazing content that is coming out is great. It’s a good time to be in entertainment and to be a fan of it. There are a lot of shows that rival Oscar-winning movies with how good they are, and the stories that they tell. I am really happy and excited for all the streaming services, including Facebook Watch, because I feel I am acting pioneer since we were one of the first shows on Facebook Watch.”

Scott is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he stars in the forthcoming project Rockstar, in the title role.

For aspiring actors, he encouraged them to enroll in acting classes. “You can do all the networking but you still have to audition and be really good,” he said. “Other than that, take your career very seriously. Make sure both the business side and the acting side are taken care of and have fun with it. Work your ass off.”

Aside from being an actor, he shared that he is a model for Wilhelmina Models. “My cast-mates from Turnt referred me to the Wilhelmina modeling agency, so I have them to thank for that,” he said.

The heartthrob actor defined the word success as “Staying passionate and happy within the work that you are doing.”
