Maslow has been fortunate to grace many magazine covers including Men’s Health and FitnessRx Magazine. “It has always been a dream of mine to be in the cover of Men’s Health,” he said. “I was happy and proud of that one, and I want to keep it going. It’s really cool and it is actually motivating just to see those pictures and say ‘hey, I’ve come a long way.’ It is motivating to continue to be healthy and train and try to make the next one even better.”
On his workout regimen, Maslow said, “It is all about consistency. Sometimes, it is really hard training days, and sometimes, I just get in and try to run a mile or two, and stretch, and sweat a little bit because it’s better than doing nothing. That’s the only secret that I have: eat healthy consistently and exercise consistently. It takes a long time, but if you make it part of your daily habit and lifestyle, you will see your body change.”
For aspiring musicians, Maslow said, “Try and learn as much as you can in the studio. Even after all these years of making music, I am just now becoming more proficient as an engineer. I’ve always produced, but I’ve always needed help working on certain programs. Everything is so cheap and accessible relatively speaking these days. Write your own music and work on producing your own music as well. Be as versatile and well-rounded of an artist that you can be.”
He had nothing but the kindest remarks about Kendall Schmidt (from Big Time Rush) about his side project, Heffron Drive, with Dustin Belt. “I am proud of him, and Dustin, for continuing to make music, and following their dreams. That’s what I’m trying to do. It’s cool seeing my old band-mate continue. ‘One Way Ticket’ might be my favorite song of theirs yet,” he said. “We spent so many years together, and we grew up like brothers.”
Over the last 10 years, Maslow admitted that looking back, it was a “whirlwind and an education.” “I look at Big Time Rush essentially as a paid education, by being on sets and on stage. It gave me such a knowledge, and a confidence to do what I’m doing now,” he said.
Maslow listed Demi Lovato as his dream female duet choice in music. “Demi has one of the best voices of our generation,” he said.
He defined the word success as “the freedom to make art when I want to, and not have to do anything else to pay the bills.”
For his loyal fans, Maslow said, “Love you guys. Big old virtual hug to everybody. I appreciate you being here for me. I promise that I’ll keep doing this as long as you guys are listening and watching.”
