Jaime Lyn Beatty chatted about starring in the Off-Broadway show “Five, The Parody Musical” and being a part of the digital age.
Portraying Melania
In this production, she plays the role of Melania. “My favorite thing about playing Melania is that I get to lean into the mystery of who she is,” she said. “Let’s be honest, the last thing anyone expects to hear is Melania Trump singing a song about potatoes….and yet, here we are…. belting an homage to root vegetables.”
On being a part of “Five, The Parody Musical,” she said, “As they say in the pageant world, ‘It feels amazing!’ This show is filled with so much heart, humor, and glitter… It’s a treat to get to share a stage with such funny and talented ladies. We are indeed hashtag blessed.”
The digital age
On being a performer in the digital age, she said, “While nothing can compare to experiencing theater ‘live!’ and ‘in the flesh!,’ I do think social media and streaming platforms help make theater accessible, which is always wonderful.”
“Personally, I like to use my Instagram and TikTok to give people a glimpse into the process. Now more than ever, I think audiences are hungry for behind the scenes footage. The theater sausage is getting made, and the people love to see it,” she said.
Daily inspirations as a creative
She shared her inspirations as a creative individual. “This is a hard question because I don’t really seek out creativity. It just kind of finds me… when I least expect it,” she noted.
“As far as ‘inspiration’ goes, I guess you could say I’m inspired by delicious food. Nothing gets me through the day like the promise of a yummy meal. Also my dog. She inspires me to be less lazy,” she explained.
Future plans
On her plans for the future, she said with a sweet laugh, “A yummy meal.”
Advice for aspiring artists
For young and aspiring artists, she said, “Find a day job that allows you to have flexibility for auditions and gigs.”
Success
On her definition of the word success, she said, “Success is subjective. For me, my idea of success is always changing. As long as I’m happy in the moment, I’m successful.”
She concluded about “Five, The Parody Musical,” “Drenched in glitter, smothered in rhinestones, and overflowing with potatoes ‘Five’ is a campy fun time for all.”
