Jack Maxwell (“Booze Traveler”) sat down and chatted about “Spirit Quest with Jack Maxwell,” which was directed by Meredith Thomas.
“It feels wonderful to be here in New York City,” he said. “Doing this ‘Spirit Quest’ project was a labor of love,” he admitted.
Concept behind ‘Spirit Quest’
“The idea was to create something from the group up. Seeing it from its embryonic stage to its development, and then birthing it is really exciting as an artist and as a creator.”
“To be able to envision something and watch it come to fruition has been really great,” he admitted. “If people were fans of ‘Booze Traveler,’ they would be fans of this. The one thing that the pilot teaches us is that no matter who we are, or where we are, we all have the same things in common: we love to laugh, we love to have a good time with our friends, and we like to celebrate things with our family.”
The digital age
On being a part of the digital age, Maxwell said, “I was a late bloomer to that, I did a show on the Travel Channel called ‘Booze Traveler,’ which started in 2014, and they had to teach me how to do Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter; that was as far as I was willing to go.”
“I don’t want to be an influencer because I don’t social media is the same as creating or being an artist. Some people on social media certainly are creators and a lot of influencers do that but it’s not my vibe. I love to create things for reasons other than social media,” he elaborated.
AI on the future of the entertainment industry
“Just like at the term of any invention or anything created, you just never know what it’s going to be. Sometimes, you get an industrial revolution out of things like that and other times, things fail and go by the wayside. I hope AI can do a lot of good at the world.”
“I just hope that actors are protected in the future, which we just fought for, and all creatives are protected from AI because that can go sideways quick,” he added.
Working with Meredith Thomas as director
On working with Meredith Thomas as a filmmaker, Maxwell said, “I am thrilled to be working on this with Meredith Thomas as producer and director. She did a great job, I give her a lot of credit, and she really helped a lot with this project.”
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said, “Let’s see what happens now.” “I went through cancer, chemo, COVID, and I am better than ever. I am doing fine, and I am back from all that. I’m creating again,” he said.
Working with Sammy Hagar of Van Halen
He complimented Sammy Hagar for being a part of “Spirit Quest.” “Sammy Hagar of Van Halen fame was my guest star, and he just got a nomination from the NYC Web Fest for ‘Best Guest Star.’ We were also nominated for ‘Best Pilot’ and ‘Best Host’. We have also gotten into six or seven other festivals.”
Favorite motto to live by
His favorite motto to live by is the following: “Be kind if you can, and you always can.” “Sometimes, we forget to be nice and kind. We forget our humanity, and I want to make sure that I never forget that,” he explained.
Success
On his definition of the word success, Maxwell said, “Success means having a goal, setting it in place, and then, moving towards that. You don’t even have to be results-oriented. Doing what you want to do, the way you want to do it with people you love is success.”
