Actor Jack Champion (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) chatted about starring in the new movie “Everything’s Going to Be Great.”

Aside from Champion, the film stars Allison Janney, Bryan Cranston, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Simon Rex and Chris Cooper. It just had its world premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

There’s no business like show business — for Buddy Smart (Primetime Emmy winner Bryan Cranston) and Macy Smart (Oscar winner Allison Janney) that means an unpredictable life in regional theater while trying to raise their radically different sons, Lester and Derrick.

Through it all, Buddy pursues his unstoppable dreams, and Macy is left to pull it all together and keep the family afloat.

As the family grapples with identity and belonging, they share a humorous and heartfelt journey of self-discovery, learning the power of owning your spotlight, no matter what stage of life you’re in.

In “Everything’s Going to Be Great,” Champion plays Derrick Smart.

Champion on his experience filming ‘Everything’s Going to Be Great’

Regarding his experience filming “Everything’s Going to Be Great,” Champion expressed, “It was one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve got to work with such awesome people as Bryan Cranston, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Allison Janney, and the director Jon S. Baird.”

“They were all so nice and welcoming, and extremely talented. It was definitely a great learning experience as an actor,” he added.

Lessons learned from this screenplay

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, Champion reflected, “I feel that the screenplay was so good! I think this screenplay just helped stretch me as an actor.”

“There were certain emotional scenes that I had never done before, and those helped push myself as an actor creatively, so that, for me, was the No. 1 experience just from reading and filming,” Champion elaborated.

The digital age

On being a performer in the digital age, Champion remarked, “I feel there is a certain expectation as an actor in the digital age, where they should basically also be influencers.”

“I definitely prefer being an actor where I can post when I want. I don’t want to feel like I have to post all the time,” he admitted.

“I certain like being an old-school actor, where I audition, film and do press but I definitely don’t want to be an influencer,” he noted.

Advice for young and emerging actors

For young and aspiring actors, he said, “If you love it, just keep going with it, and trust yourself.”

“It is very easy to get discouraged when you have a lot of people telling you ‘no.’ If you make failure not an option, if you don’t give up for a certain number of years and you just keep going, I think you are going to find a lot of success,” he elaborated.

“Also, remember that every actor gets more ‘nos’ than ‘yeses’,” he added.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Champion revealed, “Press Season.”

“I’ve been doing a lot of press this season,” he admitted. “I have lot of press to do for this movie, and other projects later this year.”

Success

Regarding his definition of the word success, Champion said, “The No. 1 thing about feeling successful is being very satisfied in your work, and obviously having enough means to support yourself comfortably.”

“My version of success is having satisfaction in my work,” Champion concluded.
