J.K. Simmons is moving from Marvel to DC. The former J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies will now be starring as Commissioner James Gordon in Warner Bros.’ Justice League.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Simmons’ signing with Warner Bros. James Gordon is the commissioner of the Gotham City police department. In the comics and movies, Gordon works closely with Batman to protect Gotham from the forces of evil.
Simmons originally starred as J. Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi Sony Spider-Man films. Sony and Marvel Studios worked out a deal to share Spider-Man between both studios. There was talk of Simmons playing Jameson again in future Spider-Man movies. With the Warner Bros. signing that looks unlikely now.
Justice League: Part One will hit theaters November 17, 2017 and is set to start filming in April. Justice League: Part Two is due out June 14, 2019. Along with directing both films, Zack Snyder also directed this month’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It is due out March 25, 2016.
J.K. Simmons won Best Supporting Actor for his role as Terence Fletcher in the 2014 drama Whiplash.
