Interview with Brett Kissel: 3-time CCMA award winner in 2016 (Includes interview)

At the 2016 CCMA awards, he took home trophies in such categories as “Fan’s Choice,” “Male Artist of the Year” and “Interactive Artist of the Year.” “It was just a remarkable weekend. It was one of the best weekends in my life,” Kissel said.

For his studio album Pick Me Up, Kissel worked with veteran producer Mickey Jack Cones. “Mickey is without question one of the best of the best in the business, and he continues to get better. I absolutely love the guy and working with him was a real thrill,” Kissel said. “I give credit to his wife, Shannon, she is so special and so supportive and it truly takes somebody like that to stand by a creative person like Mickey and support him through everything. She is an unbelievable person!”

His new single “I Didn’t Fall in Love With Your Hair” tugs at the heart due to its poignant subject matter. It is a collaboration with Carolyn Dawn Johnson. “There are many different areas for that song. The most important is the fact that while recording it, I felt it was an opportunity to do a lot of good with that song. Music in general heals people, and the lyrics are so special,” he said. “All the proceeds on iTunes and Google Play are going straight to the Canadian Cancer Society, which is very important to us.”

“Carolyn is one of my very favorites. I am so proud to be working with her. I don’t think anybody could have done a better job on that song than her,” he said.

Most impressive about Kissel is that he has his own emoji. He is the first Canadian artist to have his own sticker packs on the new iOs. “Isn’t that cool? That came out of nowhere for me. My team at Warner Music working with Apple and the iPhone came up with that. We were the first cowboy on the iPhone,” he said.
