Regarding the song selection process for the EP, he said, “I was in Nashville and I wrote 15 songs there, and I wrote 30 songs of my own, but I decided not to put any of those on there. I didn’t care about the rules. I sang what I thought felt good and what resonated with my heart. That’s how I selected the songs for the EP.”
He listed the title track “Yellow Boxes” as his personal favorite song on the EP. “It was written in about five minutes and it recorded within the week. The idea was going through my brain for a few months. It’s very inspirational,” he said.
On October 9, Ward will be performing at Webster Hall in New York City. “I am excited about that one. It’s going to be fun to come back. The tour is different this time. I just want to connect with the audience. It will be me with my guitar and I will be trying to create the feel of the songs on stage. I want to tell my story and I hope it connects with people in a way,” he said.
For his fans, Ward concluded, “Don’t be so scared and don’t be so fearful to speak. Try not to hold in the ‘I love you’ and let them know that you care. We assume way too much and people sometimes need to hear it.”
