Young on her Tony nomination for ‘Purpose’

On her Tony nomination for “Purpose,” Young said, “It’s an honor to be nominated. I am always grateful to be nominated.”

A few weeks ago, Young went on to win back-to-back Tony Awards for “Best Featured Actress in a Play.” Last year, she won her first Tony for “Purlie Victorious.”

Young also won the Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play,” where she was tied for the win with Amalia Yoo of “John Proctor is the Villain.”

Significance of the play ‘Purpose’

Regarding the importance and relevance of “Purpose,” she remarked, “It speaks to me every single night. My answer is constantly evolving.”

“There is so much to latch onto. There is so much that touches the heart. Every single night there is something new that I might hear,” she noted.

“The story is always expanding, the more that we are in practice. It starts to create its own thing, and there are more nuances. There is so much to walk away from this play,” Young acknowledged.

Advice for young and emerging performers

For young and aspiring performers, Young encouraged them to “keep on doing it.” “Don’t let anyone clip your wings,” she underscored.
