On the song selection process for his new album, he said, “I’ve been really blessed. I wrote a lot of good songs, but some of the best songwriters in Nashville were pitching songs to me.”
Owens picked “God and the Ground She Walked On” as his personal favorite song on the album. “What the song says and everything, it is definitely one of the best songs on the record,” he said. “All I know to do is traditional country music, and we hope we can get somebody to like it.”
Veteran country star John Anderson collaborates with Owens on “Chicken Truck.” “It was awesome. I have always been a fan of his music. He’s a legend in the business. It is always gratifying and overwhelming to work with somebody like him,” he said.
He selected country queen Reba McEntire as his dream female country collaboration choices. “She’s the George Strait equivalent of the females in country music. She has stood the test of time,” he said.
His plans for 2017 are to continue to tour, and he hopes to be out on the road with Gene Watson and John Anderson. For his country music fans, he concluded, “Thank you for all the overwhelming support all these years. If it weren’t for you guys, we couldn’t do what we do.”
