Singer Shaila Murdock chatted about her biggest influences and love for performing.
Adele once said: “I define power by having the confidence to make your own decisions and not be swayed by other people.” This quote applies to Shaila Murdock.
On Thursday, June 26th, Murdock was a part of the June 26th “Emerging Artist Showcase” at Joanne Trattoria, which is situated in the Upper West Side of New York City.

On performing at the “Emerging Artist Showcase” at Joanne Trattoria, Murdock said, “It was very last minute so it was a bit nerve-wracking. Once I performed, it was very exciting, and I am really glad I did it.”
Biggest musical influences
Murdock’s greatest musical influences include “Adele, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga.”
Speaking of Adele, Murdock performed her song “I Found a Boy” at the “Emerging Artist” showcase at Joanne Trattoria, in a performance that was well-received by all. “I love that song… and all of Adele’s music,” Murdock admitted.
Lessons learned from the music business
On the lessons that she learned from the music business, she reflected, “I think it’s something that I am always learning from. Music is something that I have been doing since I was a little girl, and it has helped me grown into the person that I am now.”
Advice for young and emerging artists
For young and aspiring artists, she said, “You need to show up for yourself even when you don’t want to.”
Future plans
As part of her future plans, Murdock would like to “explore releasing more original music.”
Defining moments
On her defining moments, she recalled, “Ironically, it was when I sang another Adele song. I sang it for my eighth grade graduation. That showed me that I enjoy singing, and I really like doing this.”
Success
Regarding her definition of the word success, Murdock said, “That is a hard question because we are living in money-driven days.”
“Success means being proud of the work I’m doing,” she expressed.
