On April 29, West will be playing at The Paramount, where he is sharing the stage with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Robby Krieger of The Doors. “I’ve played there before, and I will be there with Robby Krieger’s band. I know Robby from many tours we have done. He’s a fantastic guy and he has written some great songs, “he said.
Regarding his latest studio album, Soundcheck, West said, “I wanted to pick songs that you wouldn’t think I would choose. For songs like ‘You are My Sunshine,’ I changed the key to a minor key so it didn’t sound happy.”
West listed “Left By The Roadside To Die” and “You Are My Sunshine” as his favorite songs on the collection. His plans for the rest of 2016 include to go on a cruise in March of 2016, to take some time off, and then he will play a show at B.B. King Blues Club in New York City on April 30, right after his show at The Paramount.
For West, his key to longevity in music involves “writing songs and playing.” “That’s what keeps me going, and now I have my own line of guitars, which are signature models with Dean Guitar,” he said.
Throughout his career in the industry, West has collaborated with such rock and roll musicians as Ozzy Osborne, Billy Joel, Van Halen, The Who, Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones), Jimi Hendrix and Joe Bonamassa. “Mick Jagger came over to my house and we started playing guitar together. He played really good guitar, and we went in the studio together,” he said.
Another proud moment for West involved playing with Jimi Hendrix. “There is a picture on the Mountainrockband.com website of me and Jimi Hendrix playing together at a club in New York. He’s playing bass and I’m playing guitar,” he said.
