Interview: R&B group KING talks Grammy nomination, Prince, future (Includes interview)

KING earned a 2017 Grammy nod for “Best Urban Contemporary Album,” which was quite a thrill for the girls. “Being nominated was such an amazing feeling and an honor. It was especially meaningful to us as independent artists to have our work recognized by the Recording Academy,” they said.

Regarding their future plans, they said, “Our plans just involve and revolve around music, we can’t wait to record more albums and play more shows in more cities.”

Most impressive about KING was that they were mentored by the late musical giant Prince. “Prince was a wonderful ally. It was incredible to witness his genius at work. His attention to detail is unmatched,” they said.

For aspiring singer-songwriters, the girls encouraged them to be themselves, as well as to “stay creative.”

KING are avid users of technology. “Technology is so central to what we do, whether it be sharing ideas when we’re not able to be in the same room, recording albums, or connecting with our fans over social media,” they said.

On the digital transformation of the music scene, they said, “Technology has made it possible for artists to directly reach listeners in a way that’s never before been possible. It has opened the door for communication on so many levels.”

For their fans, they concluded, “We’d like to give them all a huge thank you for listening!”

KING’s debut album, We are KING, garnered a rave review from Digital Journal.
