His hot dog kiosk, “Fat One’s,” will be celebrating its grand opening at the Florida Mall on September 10 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. It will be located near the Dining Pavilion between Five Guys and La Madeleine Country French Café. “We are opening up on Sunday and we are excited about it, and it is basically hot dogs and Italian ices,” he said.
It was created by global pop sensation and Orlando resident Joey Fatone, and it will offer premium 100 percent beef dogs, in a variety of styles from Cuban to Johnny Pizza, among others. He praised his Cuban hot dog for being “pretty bad-ass.” “We actually press the bun itself so you get the crunchiness on the outside and the Cuban feel,” he said.
When asked how the idea came about, Fatone said, “I love food of course. During the summer days, when I was living in New York, I would go to Nathan’s in Coney Island to get a hot dog, I would walk down the pier to get an Italian ice, and I always wanted to have something like that,” he said. “I decided to open up my own venture, and Fat One’s was born. It was pretty amazing how the idea came about, and the whole tasting. It has really been a blast.”
Most impressive about Fat One’s is the “Boy Bander” hot dog, which includes five mini hot dogs, which are reminiscent of Fatone’s former boy band N Sync. “For people that want to try some of the hot dogs as a sampler, we have mini hot dogs, and we call them the Boy Bander. It has all of the different signature hot dogs that you could actually sample,” he said.
His Italian ices have different flavors, and he hopes to come up with some seasonal ones. “We have the cherry, chocolate, mango, lemon, orange, blue raspberry and we also have the cotton candy Italian ice, which is one of my favorites,” he said.
“I am motivated by the creativity and excitement of it,” he said. “This is something that is a new venture for me, and I wanted to do it right. I wanted to learn as much as I can about the business. I did some research and went out there and tasted different hot dogs, and we use 100 percent meat in our hot dogs.”
At this family-friendly celebration, on Sept. 10, the attendees will have the opportunity to sample items from his menu that will be served by Joey Fatone himself, while a DJ spins the latest and greatest beats. It will include other family-friendly activities such as balloon artists, stilt walkers, and more.
As Digital Journal reported, Fatone made a surprise appearance this summer at 98 Degrees’ My2K tour stop at West Palm Beach, Florida, where he sang with Nick and Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre. “I was out there watching their concert, and they all invited me to join them on stage in the medley. They got me pants and everything, so I was like ‘why not?’ We did the soundcheck together, and nobody knew I was coming out really until the song came on,” Fatone said.
Fatone was a part of Dead 7, the zombie film that was written by Nick Carter, that featured other boy band members such as AJ McLean, Nick Carter and Howie D. from the Backstreet Boys, Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees, Chris Kirkpatrick from N Sync, and all the guys from O-Town. “Nick came up with that idea and this concept, and it was cheesy and fun. We made fun of ourselves at times. It was fun to do,” he said.
For his fans, he concluded, “Thank you for everything that you have been doing and for being positive supporters. It has been a great learning experience, since, doing something like this, you never know if they are going to support it or not, and they have, so it has been great.”
Fatone defined the word success as “Being happy and healthy and being financially secure.”
