Country star Lauren Alaina chatted with Digital Journal’s Markos Papadatos about her new album “Sitting Pretty on Top of the World,” her latest single “Getting Over Him,” her upcoming book “Getting Good at Being You,” and her Hallmark movie “Roadhouse Romance.”

‘Sitting Pretty On Top of the World’ album

Regarding the song selection process for her new album, she said, “I wrote all of the songs during the pandemic. It came together pretty easily once I really honed on what I wanted to do. I am so proud of the project. I think it’s the best album I’ve ever made and I am so excited.”

The country songstress listed “It Was Me” and “Good Ole Boy” as her personal favorite songs on the album. “I love the vulnerability in ‘It Was Me’ and the amount of growth I had to attain to write a song like that, and that makes me really proud,” she said. “The song ‘Good Ole Boy’ is my second favorite.”

‘Getting Over Him’ single featuring Jon Pardi

On her new single “Getting Over Him,” featuring Jon Pardi, she said, “That’s a good song too, it’s our current single. I am so proud of it. I am really excited about it since it’s Top 35 on country radio at the moment. That was a fun one to come up with because I went through two really public breakups.”

“I recorded the song with Jon Pardi, who is one of my best friends in town,” she added.

‘Getting Good at Being You’ book

She also spoke about her new book “Getting Good at Being You,” which will be released later in the fall. “Writing the book was such a healing process for me, for sure,” she said. “I liked sharing my journey with my faith, it was an honor.”

Dream duet choices in music

Alaina listed Dolly Parton as her dream duet choice in music. “Who wouldn’t pick Dolly? Also, Vince Gill would be amazing,” she exclaimed. “Martina McBride is one of my favorites, I got to tour with her, and she is so kind.”

‘Roadhouse Romance’ film on Hallmark

On September 11, her new original film “Roadhouse Romance” will premiere on the Hallmark Channel, where she stars as Callie Jackson opposite Tyler Hynes, who plays Luke, the TV director. “‘Roadhouse Romance’ was amazing,” she exclaimed.

“I love acting, and I love Hallmark so it checked two boxes for me right there. I am excited for everyone to see it, I think my fan-base really lines up with Hallmark and I think they are going to love it too,” she elaborated.

Alaina had great words about her “Roadhouse Romance” acting partner Tyler Hynes. “It was really fun. We had a really good time shooting it,” she said. “Tyler is very giving and it’s nice to work with somebody who has done a lot of films with Hallmark, and that brought me a sense of comfort. Tyler is a Hallmark star.”

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said, “Sitting Pretty on Top of the World,” thus referring to her album title.

When asked what superpower she would like to have, she responded, “flying” so that she could go and play her shows and fly back home to be with her family.

If she were to ever go on “The Masked Singer,” she noted that she would like to be a “scorpion,” simply because she is a Scorpio.

The digital age

On being an artist in the digital age, she said, “I was just told that I am 20 million streams away from having a billion streams, so that is pretty amazing. I am very thankful.”

“Also, we are able to put out music faster these days, so there is more content, so that is lovely,” she added.

Success and fans

She defined the word success as “being able to do what I love, and feeling happy with myself.”

For her fans and supporters, Alaina concluded, “This has been a tough time and I tried to find ways to provide healing and hope. I don’t know of any better way than a book, a Hallmark movie, and a new album. That’s what I did for the fans, and that was all I could do: use my time to inspire them.”
