Interview: Kiefer Sutherland talks new album, tour, success (Includes interview)

This tour will be in support of his forthcoming studio country album, Down In a Hole, which features the single “Not Enough Whiskey.”

On May 25, Sutherland will be performing an exclusive show at The Founders Room in Huntington on Long Island.

When asked what motivates him from day to day (whether it is singing or acting), Sutherland said, “You find your challenges in every regard. For me, I’m in the middle of shooting a show called Designated Survivor, and it’s something that I am incredibly proud of and for that, the great challenge is that I believe that the writing is so special, and to try to reach its potential as an actor is a challenge. When I go to play music, every audience is different and to try and understand that and to figure out how to best perform under those circumstances is a challenge. Every day, trying to do your best with whatever challenges are in front of you, is what I find exciting, and at the end of any circumstance, whether it is this tour or the end of a season doing a show, you look back and you realize ‘wow, that was an adventure.’ From a day to day point of view, it’s realizing what needs to be done that specific day, and trying to figure out how to do it as best as you can.”

Sutherland concluded our interview by furnishing his definition of the word success. “Success is the opposite of failure,” he said. “It’s not something I think of in those terms. That’s a big question, I guess. If you can put your head on a pillow at night with a smile on your face, that’s a major success. That’s a very complicated question for me to answer.”
