Interview: Judy Collins talks new studio album ‘Strangers Again’ (Includes interview)

This marks her first studio effort in four years, and it features such musical guests as Jackson Browne, Jimmy Buffett, Don McLean, Jeff Bridges, Glen Hansard (from the feature film Once) and Country Music Hall of Famer Willie Nelson, among others. “First of all, I asked a number of people what they would like to sing, and sometimes, I had an idea in mind,” she said.

Collins noted that the title track “Strangers Again” started it all for this project. “Then, I was working with Don McLean and I told him that I wanted to do a duets album, and he told me that he wanted to sing ‘Send In The Clowns’ with me. Then, I ran into Jimmy Buffett in the summer, and he said he wanted to sing ‘Someday Soon’ with me, and those three songs had me going,” she said.

The acclaimed songstress shared that it is “too soon” for her to choose a personal favorite track on the album. She will be playing at the Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington on November 22. “I will be doing a lot of my classic Judy Collins songs and my songs from the Strangers Again album, and I will be singing a couple of new songs. It should be a wonderful night,” she said.

In December of 2013, Collins performed at The Paramount in Huntington on Long Island, and she praised the venue for its beauty and its food. “It was a delicious dinner. I’m sure they do that for all of their artists. I was very, very pleased,” she recalled.

For aspiring singers, Collins’ advice is simple and straightforward. “Never give up,” she stressed.

Each day, Collins is motivated by her cup of coffee. “I love to get going. I am a fast motivator I think,” she said.

“Carry on, and thank you for supporting me,” she told her dedicated fans.
