Regarding his new single, “Southern Boy,” the Georgia native said, “The song was going to be just me singing it for the longest time. I cut my vocal back in the end of 2013 for that song, and we didn’t start talking about a duet with Jason Aldean until after I signed with Broken Bow Records. Sure enough, Jason heard ‘Southern Boy’ and he loved it, and he thought it would be pretty cool if I could have him on that, and I told him ‘absolutely.'”
He had nothing but the greatest words for Jason Aldean, his label-mate and duet partner. “Jason has been a big supporter of mine since day one, and he has been a great friend and a big brother figure to me,” Rager said.
Rager is in the studio working on his debut studio album, where he is working with his producer, Jeremy Stover, who has collaborated with such country artists as Justin Moore and Jack Ingram.
His biggest musical influences include “The Gambler” Kenny Rogers, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, as well as Tracy Lawrence and John Michael Montgomery.
Rager considers Broken Bow Records to be a tight family atmosphere. “There is a lot of great labels and teams in this town, but I truly believe that I ended up in the best label for me, and the best label in town. Broken Bow Records has the best staff, and it doesn’t feel like a label, it feels like a family. Everybody is happy for one another,” he said.
He hopes to have a full-length album out on shelves by the end of the year, and he will continue touring and playing shows.
Rager listed Tori Kelly and Ashley Monroe as his dream female duet choices. “Ashley has probably one of the coolest female voices that I’ve ever heard. I am such a fan of her music and her singing. She could sing the phone-book backwards and I would listen to it,” he said.
He defined the word success as “Playing my music for as many people as possible, for as long as I possibly can.”
