The band repeat repeat will be opening for Neon Trees tonight at the Bowery Ballroom. “Not only are we so excited to play with them, but we have always felt like we would be a perfect fit with Neon Trees. Also, we’ve wanted to play the Bowery Ballroom since the bands’ inception. Neon Trees’ style and sound at times defies a distinct genre and we feel like we can relate,” Corder said.
Regarding their single “Girlfriend,” he said, “I grew up listening to west coast punk rock. I also grew up with a mother and sisters and was taught to treat women well. I wanted to write a song for the punk rock good guy. You can still say ‘fuck you’ to authority and respect a lady.”
On their plans for the future, Corder said, “For the band, to tour as much as possible, be thankful every time someone new likes this thing we’re creating, never stop writing and allowing our sound to evolve. Personally, I want to someday learn how to build ships in bottles. That is a lost art.”
He revealed that his greatest musical influences include Radiohead, Run the Jewels, Mother Mother, Andy Shauf, and BRONCHO.
Digital transformation of music
Regarding the impact of technology in the music scene, he said, “Access to nice technology has given less talented people more exposure. It used to be that if you had a hi-def sleek music video or a recording that didn’t sound like it was recorded in your garage you were talented enough to convince other talented people (engineers, producers, videographers, etc) to work with you. Now you can have the best looking video and the most overly produced songs and never leave your house and never actually be any good.”
On their use of technology in their daily routine, he said, “I made the mistake of buying a Wifi hotspot for the tour van. We bought it to be able to keep up with emails from the road. I sort of regret it though, because it was only for emergency’s but I end up using it to download Spotify playlists and watch Netflix and we use up too much data.”
For their fans, he concluded about your their “Girlfriend,” “Treat women with the utmost respect. Stick it to ‘the man.’ You could listen to any song in the world and when you listen to our music we never lose sight of how thankful we are for that.”
