Singer-songwriter HUNTER chatted about her new single “Good Girl,” and being a part of the digital age.
How did “Good Girl” come about?
I’ve seen how easy it is for women to feel small or competitive around each other, and I’ve felt it myself.
I wanted to write a song that shifts that energy into something positive — about building each other up and celebrating each other’s beauty and success.
What inspires your music and songwriting?
Life itself. The highs, the heartbreaks, the quiet moments, the people I love — all of it ends up in my songs. Writing is how I process and make sense of it all.
How did you approach the song selection process for the upcoming new EP?
I chose the songs that felt the most honest. If I could sing them live and feel that connection with the crowd, I knew they belonged on the record.
What is your advice for young and emerging artists?
Trust yourself. Don’t wait until you feel “ready” — none of us ever do. Put your art out there and let it grow with you.
How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age?
It’s a strange balance. Technology gives us the chance to share music with the world instantly, which is amazing, but it can also be overwhelming.
At the end of the day, staying grounded in who you are matters more than chasing algorithms.
What do your plans for the future include?
Sharing more music, connecting with people through touring, and pushing myself to keep evolving as an artist.
My biggest goal is longevity — to create work that still means something years from now.
Which artists would you like to do a dream collab with and why?
Aretha Franklin because she was the queen and her soul changed music forever.
Quincy Jones because his mind was legendary and he has shaped some of the greatest songs of all time. RIP to both.
Also, Sabrina Carpenter, because she’s witty, fearless, and I think we’d have a blast making something playful together.
What would you like to tell our readers about your new music?
That it’s personal. Every song comes from a real place, whether it’s empowerment, heartbreak, or joy.
My sophomore EP is out this September, and I’ll be on tour performing these songs live for the first time.
My hope is that people feel a little less alone when they hear it — like the songs are theirs too.
