This past summer, Jones played a show at The Paramount in Huntington on Long Island, which garnered a favorable review from Digital Journal, which dubbed it as “nostalgic.” “That was great. It was fantastic. I’ve played there a few times, but that was probably the best show I’ve done there,” he said.
Jones and his high-tech band wrapped a highly successful run of summer tour dates as special guests on the extensive “Last Summer On Earth tour” with Barenaked Ladies and the English electronic band OMD in the United States.
The veteran music star will return to the United States for headline shows later in November and December. “I’m flying out on Sunday, and I am going all over. It’s the last tour of the year,” he said.
Throughout his respected career in the music industry, which spans over three decades, Jones has sold over eight million albums worldwide and he continues to make new music and tour the world.
Each day, Jones is motivated by his love for music. “I feel I am in a privileged position, and it’s such a great pleasure to play songs for people and make them happy, and lift their spirits for a couple of hours. I always keep reminding myself about that,” he said.
Regarding the key to longevity in the music industry, he said, “It’s having a passion for what you do, and for the music, and for communicating things to people through songs. That’s what keeps me going. It’s what I always wanted to do ever since I was a small child, and I’ve never ran out of steam to keep doing it. It’s always a very exciting and a brilliant thing to do. I’m getting better at it now, after all these decades.”
He shard that his Engage album was a whole different concept for him, and he listed “The Human Touch” as his personal favorite song on there. “It wasn’t conceived as a studio album. I wrote the music based on the idea that I was going to play the songs in front of an audience. It was meant to take people on a sound and visual journey, and to really involve the people in the whole journey,” he said.
For his fans, he concluded, “Thank you for sticking with me for 33 years. I’m very grateful that people still want to see me and hear the new music, and they are the best fans ever.”
Jones’ album Engage is available on iTunes.
