His new single, “Angels in this Town,” was officially released today on iTunes. “I wrote it with Corey Crowder and Erik Dylan. We were actually in Alabama on a writer’s retreat and we were talking about those stories that make your hair stand and those unexplainable miracles, and that song came out of it. I am looking forward to sharing it with everybody. The song came out today and I just selfishly downloaded it,” he said with a sweet laugh.
This past April, Paslay played a live show at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh, Long Island. “It was fun. We always love rocking for the fans. It was a great night. You never know what is going to happen. That’s what is great about the road,” he said. “We got to play some songs from the new album.”
Earlier this month, Paslay headed back to his home state of Texas, where he celebrated some of the local “angels in the town,” or community heroes.
Paslay was nominated for a 2016 Grammy award for “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” for “The Driver,” where he collaborated with Charles Kelley (of Lady Antebellum) and Dierks Bentley. “That was wild, and really cool,” he admitted.
For aspiring country songwriters, Paslay’s advice is as follows: “Write a bunch of songs. Keep on writing. If they want to be in country music, they need to come to Nashville a whole lot. Make sure what you write about is believable and have fun doing it.”
His dream female duet partners are Stevie Nicks, Katy Perry, Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton. “Katy Perry would be cool. She’s just a great singer. Emmylou Harris is the duet queen,” he said.
