Interview: Country star Granger Smith talks injury, family, grace (Includes interview)

On his recent injury at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey, Smith said, “It happened so fast, in the blink of an eye. I fell and it spun me around, so the first thing I thought was it was a hard hit. I thought something was really wrong, and it felt like my rib cracked inside.”

Most impressive about Smith is that he continued singing “Backroad Song” on stage following his fall from the stage.

Smith added, “It didn’t cross my mind to not finish singing the songs. It just doesn’t end like this. I relate a lot of things to high school football, back when I played. When there is a team sport, it is always about the team, and I didn’t want to let my team down, since my band were my teammates.”

He is back home in Texas, with his wife and three kids. “My wife has been helped me a lot and the kids have been super sweet,” he said.

His single “If the Boot Fits” is in the Top 10 on the country charts, which is quite flattering for Smith. “It’s been a great summer with that song. I am proud of that, and I am excited to move on,” he said.

Smith shared that this past Thanksgiving he is grateful for a lot of things. “This year is a year that I will never forget, and I’ve had some really blessed years. I’ve had a baby boy and I think that has completed our family, and we have three beautiful and healthy kids. I have a beautiful wife and I still don’t know how I deserve her. I have a great band and crew, and I consider them all friends. 2016 is the best year I’ve ever had on so many levels, and I’ll never forget it.”
