Regarding her tour with Chris Stapleton, she said, “I’m so excited to be a part of these shows with Chris. I’m such a huge fan of him – as a person, as an artist and as a writer. I’m also really excited to play in front of his crowd.”
She will be playing the Pennysaver Amphitheater on July 14 in Farmingville on Long Island. “There will be lots of songs from my new record ‘Big Day in a Small Town’ as well as some faves from my first record,” she hinted.
A few weeks later, the songstress will be playing at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York, where country queen Dolly Parton recently performed. “I’m thrilled to be going to Forest Hills Stadium and bringing the new songs to that crowd,” she said.
Clark’s songwriting inspiration is derived from everyday life. “It doesn’t have to be a big event to move the pen for me. I see songs best from everyday life. I’ve also always been drawn to big characters and somewhat dark humor,” she said.
She listed Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” as her all-time favorite song of hers. “I don’t think there is a song that is better written or sung. On all levels that song is perfection to me,” she said.
Clark is privileged to be a part of the Warner Bros. Records family. “It’s really nice to have a home at a place with such an amazing musical history. When I played the Grammy’s with Dwight Yoakam last year, he gave me a book on the history of Warner Brothers. It was really humbling to see all the artists who have made music under that logo. I’m so proud to be one of them.”
When asked about her proudest professional moments, she said, “Performing on the Grammy’s was incredible. Being nominated for Grammy’s was also something I was very proud of. It meant a lot as a songwriter to win a ‘Song of the Year’ Country Music Association (CMA) award for writing ‘Follow Your Arrow.’ As much as the awards mean some of my proudest moments come from hearing stories from fans that say my songs have touched them in some way or helped them through a bad time. Those are what matter the most.”
For Clark, the Grammy nominations were very validating and rewarding. “It definitely gives you validation. It’s such an amazing honor, one that I think every artist dreams of,” she said.
Each day, Clark is motivated by her goals. “I’m a very driven person. I got that from my dad. I have goals set in my professional life that motivate me and are good reminders when the days without any time off get too many. I always want to make the best record I can or write the best song. I’m always pushing myself on stage and on the road. I just always want to give my best,” she said.
Clark defined the word success as “Capturing a feeling for someone in a song – someone who isn’t a writer.” “Being able to put someone’s life or situation in words and have it touch others is what is the most satisfying. When a fan comes up to me at the end of a show and says that I’ve written something that helped them get through a hard time, that’s what I consider a success,” she concluded.
