His new EP “Crazy Enough” will be released on July 17 in Nashville, via his label, Willing Nashville. He co-wrote the song with Mike Pyle and Walt Aldridge, and its about his upbringing in Manchester, Massachusetts, where he spent his summer the beach rock jumping. Wills co-wrote all five songs on the EP. “This album has been a life-long struggle,” he said with a sweet laugh. “I am really proud of this record.”
Wills’ lead-off single “Never Didn’t Love You” was his breakthrough release in the United States. “It was just a joy and a great success, and now we are getting ready to launch the next single and title track of the album,” he said.
The music video for “Never Didn’t Love You” was filmed at the beach, which was a fun experience for Wills. “Any time you get to go to the beach is a lucky day, so when they presented us that option, I was totally into that. It had a fun, relaxed vibe,” he said.
For this EP, he wrote around 38 song for it, and he narrowed it down to the ones that made it on there. “It tells a little bit about the story of me and what I am all about,” he said.
An avid philanthropist, Wills performed during the 2014 Golden Globe Awards weekend in Los Angeles on the Roof Garden of the exclusive The Peninsula Beverly Hills as part of the second annual Oh Canada Cocktail Party to benefit the Friends of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
He was named “Rising Star” by the Canadian Country Music Association in 2013, and he has been nominated for “Male Artist of the Year” consecutive times. “The CCMAs have been wonderful to us. We always enjoy them, and it is an honor to be in that category,” he said.
This year, he went on tour with Canadian country stars Chad Brownlee and Jess Moskaluke, which was yet another pleasant experience for Wills. “We had a lot of fun. They are great folks. We did 27 dates in 30 nights, and what a ride we had. It was wonderful,” he said.
Regarding his future plans, he said, “We have a busy summer playing festivals and going back and forth. We are also working on a record here in Nashville. In the fall, we will settle in and go back into songwriting. It’s going to be a very busy six months.”
He listed Grammy-winning country songstress Lee Ann Womack as his dream female duet choice. “She can sing me the phone book. That’s how I feel about her,” he said.
