On his latest studio album, Horizons, he said, “It did well. I feel like everything that I wanted to happen with it, happened, and that was really cool. It was nice to make a piece of work that people really dug and thought was cool. This was the first time that I had control over what I was doing. It was the first time that I really wrapped my head around making a record, and it was a lot of work, but the good things are.”
Allen reflected on the finale of the reality competition, American Idol, which is coming to an end next year. “I am actually going back to Little Rock this weekend, and I will do a little bit of judging in the auditions, and I went back a couple of weekends ago and helped them out. It was really fun, and I got to see some of the producers. As far as the show ending, the show has done so much. It is arguably the best show of all time in that realm. It lasted so long and it created so much success for people, and people love the show.”
He added, “For somebody like me, who comes from a small town in Arkansas, and had some talent and didn’t know what to do with it, the show was beautiful for me. This whole thing would have never happened to me had I not been on that show. It will live on as one of the greatest shows of all time.”
When asked if he keeps in touch with the runner-up from his season, fellow entertainer Adam Lambert, Allen shared that he and Lambert text message each other every once in a while, but he has not seen him in a long time.
Allen’s son, Oliver, just turned two years old, and he described him as “a ball of energy.” “He is doing great. He is awesome,” he said.
On his future plans, he concluded, “I am working on new music and I am excited about it, and hopefully we will get it to people by the spring.”
