Iconic singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell hospitalized

Mitchell, 71, reportedly was found unconscious in her Bel-Air home and rushed to an area hospital but regained consciousness in the ambulance and is now in fair condition, according to the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that a person was taken from Funchal Road in Bel-Air and brought to a hospital in fair condition, but would not name the person.

Mitchell is known to have lived in the Bel-Air neighborhood for many years, the newspaper said.

Mitchell’s website reported Tuesday night that the performer was in intensive care but was “awake and in good spirits,” the newspaper said.

“Light a candle and sing a song, let’s all send good wishes her way,” the website said Tuesday.

Mitchell is perhaps best known for the iconic songs “Woodstock” and “Both Sides Now” and has won eight Grammy awards over her career.

She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

Mitchell’s music has been covered by a long list of recording artists including Prince, Bjork, Janet Jackson and Chaka Khan, the newspaper said.

She became one of the most well-known performers who emerged from the 1960s Laurel Canyon music scene that included the Doors, Neil Young, Carole King and the Eagles.

Michell released a four-CD box set last year, “Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, a Ballet, Waiting to Be Danced,” including memories of her recording sessions and interactions with music industry giants Bob Dylan and David Geffen, the newspaper said.
