On his portrayal of General George Washington on the show, he said, “It has been a real honor. It has been a wonderful experience, beyond my dreams to play a character like this. He is an amazing man and turned out to be an amazing character to play all these years.”
“On June 17, we are a pretty lucky television show, since we are actually going to finish the experience of doing the show. Our show will get to have a full conclusion, with the whole Revolutionary War played out. In so many ways, season four is the most exciting and the best of all the seasons. We see so much drama and action. Fans of the show will get to see things that they probably never imagined they would get to see.”
For Kahn, filming the final season was a bittersweet experience. “It is a little bit bittersweet for me, but there is a real sense of gratitude and accomplishment to do this job and to have played this role. I’m completing it in a way that I wanted to do it. It is such a wonderful cast of actors to work with, and the crew and writing staff are a real cohesive team. It definitely feels like an achievement,” he said.
Last year, Kahn penned an article to the Huffington Post, from his character’s viewpoint, about today’s state of affairs. “It is a very challenging time that we are living in, and every day I wake up thinking ‘what would George Washington be thinking about what is going on in our country?’, and making sure that we stay on the right path as a country and as a republic. That is something that he fought for every day,” he said. “Being our first president, I always imagine him looking down hoping that we make better choices, and the best choices that we could make.”
On his future plans, he said, “I get to audition for a lot of great roles, and take meetings on interesting projects. I’m staying open to what is going to happen next. I get opportunities enough, so I trust that things will work out for the best.”
Throughout his career in the entertainment industry, Kahn is known for his role of Danny Brecher in Dawson’s Creek and Marty Decker in Bull. Kahn also had recurring roles on Showtime’s Homeland and Billions. “Dawson’s Creek was a long time ago, but it was a fun part. I played Danny Brecher and he was kind of bad-ass,” he said. “Homeland was cool. I got to work with Claire Danes and do a couple of episodes with her. She is an amazing actor and a kind woman and I enjoyed jumping into that world. That was a good experience.”
For aspiring actors, he said, “Get good! Study. Don’t try to become a success overnight, since there’s no such thing. Don’t try to be a star. Stars grow out of work and effort. Learn monologues, practice and get better.”
He listed Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett and Maggie Siff (from Sons of Anarchy and Billions) as his dream female acting partners in life. “If Maggie and I could do a movie or a play together someday, that might be the most fun,” he said.
The fourth season of TURN: Washington’s Spies kicks off on June 17 at 9 p.m on AMC. “Thank you to the fans. I’m sure you will enjoy this last season and be thrilled by what you see in the end. It’s going to conclude in a way that I think you always imagined it might,” he said.
