Podcaster and content creator Paige Crutcher spoke about hosting her podcast “Adultish Whines.”
She shared her thoughts about being a podcast and content creator in the digital age, now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent.
New episodes the third season of her podcast “Adultish Whines” are available every Thursday, which Crutcher affectionately dubs as “Thirsty Thursdays.” It is both witty and helpful.
Her podcast is available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple, among other digital platforms.
Origin of her podcast
On the genesis of her podcast, she shared, “I decided to take a big leap in life during the pandemic and moved to Houston from my hometown in Valencia, California, away from most of my family and friends.”
“The pandemic piqued my interest in human connection because I saw so many relationship dynamics being challenged like never before and I wanted to understand people better. I also wanted to help bring people back together. And because of my personality,” she elaborated.
Crutcher continued, “I’m very outgoing and tend to say whatever is on my mind. I’ve often been told that I should have cameras following me and star on a reality TV show.”
“When I moved to Houston, one person told me ‘you need to start a digital diary so we can follow along with all the crazy things you get yourself into.’ I do tend to get myself into some crazy things, so that is exactly what I decided to do. The podcast felt like a very natural next step for me,” she added.
Daily motivations
On her daily inspirations and motivations, she said, “I am truly inspired by living in this life. I love to observe and experience new things, meet unique people and hear different opinions – even the controversial ones.”
“The motivation to keep going with this platform, even when it seems like it’s too hard, comes from the messages I get from my ‘Whiners,’ a nickname I’ve given to the audience of Adultish Whines, which applies to myself as well,” she said.
“I’m a proud whiner – who tell me they laughed ‘til their cheeks hurt, cried with me, learned something new, or were helped or inspired in some way,” she added.
The digital age
On being a podcaster and content creator in the digital age, she said, “I think the opportunity that we have as content creators in this day and age is really special. On one hand, it is stressful that it is ever-changing, and you must keep your head on a swivel.”
“On the other hand, it feels really empowering to hold the key to our own success,” she added.
Technology as a medium for connection
Regarding her use of technology in her daily routine, she said, “I use it for connection. The fact that I can connect instantly with listeners, friends and followers from all around the world through one click of a button is truly insane.”
“It is not lost on me how big of a role technology plays in my everyday life,” she acknowledged.
Future plans
On her future plans, she revealed, “This is only the beginning and I plan on continuing to challenge myself and my listeners with different perspectives, new feelings and new ideas. I hope to continue to be a safe space for all my listeners, especially since we are in this crazy life together.”
Advice for people that wish to host their own podcasts or create their own content
For people that wish to create their own content or host their own podcasts, she said, “While some podcasters might give the advice to ‘just start now,’ I disagree. Definitely start – but don’t be impulsive about it. It’s time consuming and hard work, so you want to make sure you have a sustainable model and the ability to be consistent.”
“Write down your vision, your target listener, and your purpose. Then get your audio right (video can come way later, don’t stress about that part). Now… start. Be authentic and have fun,” she exclaimed.
Success
On her definition of the word success, she explained, “Success is to be impactful. There has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears that have gone into creating ‘Adultish Whines’ and to keep it going. As long as I continue to make a positive impact on my listeners, I’ll consider that a success.”
Closing thoughts on her ‘Adultish Whines’ podcast
Crutcher remarked, “My podcast is for everyone. This is an all-inclusive environment and I don’t believe in cancel culture, but I do believe in learning culture.”
“I created this podcast to share funny and relatable life stories and also to feel closer to each other by shedding light on taboo topics like mental health, family and friend drama, boundaries, dating, and sex. I really hope people will join me as a fellow ‘whiner.’ I promise, it’s a very positive thing,” she concluded.
