Dancer and performer Hector Juan Maisonet chatted about being a part of the new musical “Buena Vista Social Club” on Broadway.
The show has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards including “Best Musical.”
“I am from Puerto Rico but I was raised in Orlando, Florida,” he said. “I have lived in New York for the past few years.”

He has been nominated for a 2025 Chita Rivera Award for “Outstanding Dancer in a Broadway Show.” “I am very honored to be nominated for this award,” he expressed. “Chita Rivera came to see the musical ‘On Your Feet!’ when I was in it.”
“I loved being a part of that show as a swing. I had the honor of having Chita Rivera in the audience. The fact that I am nominated now for an award in her name is just so crazy. I still can’t believe it,” he elaborated.
Advice for young and emerging actors, dancers, and performers
For young and aspiring actors, dancers and performers, he said, “Never stop doing the work. When you reach your goal, you never stop learning or doing better.”
“So, always strive for better and keep learning,” he underscored.
